Questions Needing Answers When Shopping

There are several questions that you should ask anyone with whom you are considering to cover you or your family. Asking these few question will eliminate many potential companies and will save you a great deal of time. In our opinion, these are the major questions to ask:

1. Do you have an out of pocket max, both in network and out of network?

2. Be leery of scheduled plan that limits room & board rates and other procedures.

3. Do doctor visits include wellness benefits such as physicals, ob-gyn exams, mammograms etc. Is the number of visits  limited to   a certain a number per year?

4. What does the plan do in regards to outpatient testing and therapy ( MRIs, CAT scans, EKGs, Stress tests, etc) Are these subject to deductible or under a co-pay? Be aware of any limits that might accompany this aspect of your plan (i.e. $1,000 per day).

5. What does the plan do in regards to outpatient chemo and radiation?
6. How is outpatient surgery handled?

7. Does the plan cover you both on and off the job? Most self-employed individuals do not carry Workmen’s Comp. Insurance on themselves.

8. Does the drug card have limits? i.e. $1,000 to $2,000 per year.
9. Are deductibles calendar year or per occurrence?

You would rather answer these questions prior to needing to use your coverage as opposed to answering them when you are in an emergency room. I have numerous plans that properly address the above concerns and looking forward to discuss your options.
